NEWS RELEASE Frodsham Becomes One of The First Active Design Prepared Pilot Towns @ActiveCheshire @AC_ActDesign

24/04/2018:

Active Cheshire and the Frodsham Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group are pleased to announce that Frodsham will be one of the first towns in Cheshire and Warrington to undergo the Active Design Ready Assessment pilot. The Assessment reviews the town’s aims and ambitions for their residential experience, before conducting a walk-through of the town to highlight the areas that facilitate and hinder daily physical activities.

Dr Declan Ryan – Strategic Lead for Active Design said
‘Active Cheshire is very excited to establish this partnership with Frodsham, who has always been a town open to new ideas and forward thinking. We wanted to create a clear Active Design Journey that Boroughs, Town and Parish Councils can join to improve the physical activity levels of their residents by designing places that compel people to move. Both Active Cheshire and the Frodsham Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group believe that the assessment will help shape the policies presented in their Neighbourhood Plan.’

Declan was invited by the Frodsham Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group to discuss the importance of Active Design in policy at their 23rd April 2018 meeting. Follow on from the meeting, the Steering Group had this to say about the new partnership
‘The Frodsham Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group is delighted to be the first town in Cheshire and Warrington to pilot Active Design with Active Cheshire. Undertaking the Active Design Ready Assessment will provide clear goals for making Frodsham’s future developments more pedestrian and cycle friendly and will increase connectivity.
Making our valued town more convenient for pedestrians, cyclists and those with less mobility by incorporating active design criteria in the Frodsham Neighbourhood Plan will bring benefits now and in the future. Here’s to a fitter, flourishing future Frodsham.’

The Active Design Journey, which is a three-tiered approach featuring membership, assessment, and personal support, is being finalised for release over the coming months. Active Cheshire will be inviting ten Town and Parish Councils to be in the first round of Active Design Prepared Towns to undergo the Active Design Ready Assessment. If you would like to register your Borough, Town or Parish Council’s interest in joining this first round then please contact Dr Declan Ryan.
